Winning: More Money, More Problems

Winning seems to have this strange effect on people. When people succeed in competition against others, it seems to compromise their ethics. It makes them more likely to cheat afterwards. You see, people usually don’t cheat when they are down and out. They cheat when they are winning and on top of the World.

How many of you have been personally affected by infidelity? Did you have a parent who had an affair?  Did that affair break up your parents’ marriage? Was your best friend or your sister who strayed? Your spouse? Maybe it was you.

Winning In Your Marriage

A good marriage is no guarantee against infidelity. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, yet this extremely common act remains poorly understood.

Few events in the life of a couple, except illness and death, carry such devastating force. Affairs happen on airplanes, at dinner parties, at conferences, at the nail salon, with colleagues, with the cable guy, and of course, on social media. What percentage of people cheat? There is no universally agreed upon definition of what constitutes infidelity. Sexting? Watching porn? Staying secretly active on dating sites? Kissing? Thinking about kissing? —there’s no way to measure.

The Struggle is Real: Really Beautiful

“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful.”

― Sigmund Freud

One of the things we seek most is for meaning in our lives. There is little scope for meaning when we sit and do nothing. But if we get out into the world, take on challenges, connect with others and seek to make a difference, then there is much more opportunity to create meaning.

Meaning is a particularly important aspect in our construction of identity. I am what I achieve, how I perceive, what attributions I make.

When we start out, we have little experience and hence have limited meaning in our lives. We explore, take risks and  have the materials of meaning-making.

When in the thick of hard work and danger, we seldom think this is beautiful. It is in the remembering that the beauty is seen. Older people are known to be generally happier, even though they have less life to live. But they do have a great deal of beauty on which to reflect.

Eventually you will discover that you were your true self the most during times of struggle. Suffering starts the journey of knowing the true self. You will look back and realize how little you actually need to be happy.

Winning: More Money, More Problems. Are Men With More Money More Likely To Cheat? “Mo Money Mo Problems”  – The Notorious B.I.G.

Biggie may have said it best, “more money, more problems”. While I’m sure that the notorious rapper was referring to a wide range of issues when he uttered these words, still this notion may be applicable to relationships; more specifically to women who are financially dependent on a man with money.
