Leaving The Oldest Child Home AloneEye Spy Blog 2
Are they leaving the oldest child Home Alone?
Leaving the oldest child home alone to watch the other kids is pretty selfish. This is especially true when the parents do so pretty frequently. Although everyone needs time to their self, the burden shouldn’t be put on the child.
In Michigan, there’s no law to dictate a certain age, but the “recommendation” from Child Protective Services is ten years old.
Children aged 11 – 12-year–old can usually be left alone for up to 3 hours, however not late at night, or in circumstances that require inappropriate responsibility. For example a situation where they would be responsible for several other younger children.
Furthermore, children deserve a childhood. They shouldn’t have to step in their parents shoes when the parent feels like taking off for an hour.
