This vehicle tracking system used the newly constructed cellular towers to “triangulate” the signal, telling our investigators a general location of the vehicle. The tracking devices were very large (about 10” x 8” x 4”), heavy, and were hard to attach to a vehicle. The batteries only lasted about two to three days. Since the internet didn’t fully exist, and cell phones did not have texting capability, we would have to call a phone number at Teletrac to get a location. This all changed when GPS satellites were invented, and new technology became available.
